The global smartphone shipments in Q2,2022 stood at 287 million units, the lowest quarterly figure since Q2, 2020. Samsung led the smartphone market with a 21% share and shipped nearly 61.8 million smartphones worldwide in Q2, 2022.
Apple was in the second spot with a 17% global market share, it shipped 49.5 million iPhones. Xiaomi came in third with 39.6 million units, while OPPO and Vivo completed the top five with 27.3 and 25.4 million units, respectively.
According to Canalys's research analyst Runar Bjørhovde, “The global smartphone market is suffering the second period of falling shipments after a brief recovery in 2021, and the sudden drop in demand is hitting the leading vendors.”
India has the second largest smartphone market with more than 600+ million users. India’s mobile handset market grew 6% YoY but fell 9% QoQ in Q2, 2022. Smartphone shipments reached almost 37 million units in Q2, 2022, with 9% YoY growth.
Xiaomi is still the market leader in India, despite the falling market share and component shortages. Samsung was in the second spot in Q2 2022 with a 14% YoY growth and 14% market share.
