The liveability index 2022
measures the "liveability" of 173 cities on 5 factors: stability,
healthcare, culture and environment, education and infrastructure.
According
to EIU, "the scores quantify the challenges that might be presented to
an individual’s lifestyle in 173 cities worldwide."
Vienna
topped this year's liveability ranking. It was at the top in the 2018
and 2019 rankings but slipped 12 spots in the 2021 index due to the
pandemic-related restrictions.
The
top ten cities were mostly from Europe and a couple were from Canada.
These cities also have good infrastructure and services which have
helped them to rebound from the pandemic.
The bottom ten cities have remained fairly stable in the rankings, with many of them facing wars, conflicts and terrorism.
Moscow,
the Russian capital, saw its liveability ranking fall by 15 places,
while St. Petersburg's slipped by 13 places due to the ongoing war,
sanctions and increasing censorship.
