In the past decade, more than 6.9 million Syrians have been forced to flee their country.
The vast majority of Syrian refugees are in neighbouring countries like Lebanon, Turkey and Jordan. Turkey hosts the largest number of registered Syrian refugees – currently more than 3.6 million.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine has created the fastest-growing refugee crisis in recent times. In less than a month more than 3.4 million Ukrainians had to leave their country.
Poland alone has accepted more than 2 million Ukrainian refugees. The number is expected to go higher as the situation is rapidly evolving, and many people are still trapped in areas of escalating conflict.
