Close to 1.2 million people have fled Ukraine since the Russian invasion in February.

Poland has taken in almost half of the refugee population fleeing Ukraine. The rest are hosted in neighbouring countries. These are mostly women and children, as men between the ages of 18 and 60 are prohibited from leaving Ukraine.

According to Filippo Grandi, UN High Commissioner for Refugees:

"I have worked in refugee emergencies for almost 40 years, and rarely have I seen an exodus as rapid as this one. And unless there is an immediate end to the conflict, millions more are likely to be forced to flee Ukraine."
