China has been Russia's top trading partner for almost a decade.
According to China's Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM), the Russia-China
trade was about $140 billion in 2021. This was about 34% higher than the
previous year.
China mainly imported coal, natural gas and crude oil from Russia, and on the other hand, Russia imported mechanical and electrical products from China.
In Europe, Germany was the top importer of natural gas from Russia. Germany imported nearly 52 billion cubic metres of natural gas from Russia in 2020, which was about 65% of its total natural gas import.
Rotterdam (Netherlands), is the largest port in Europe and is a major hub for the redistribution of fossil fuels. The Netherlands shows up high in the imports from Russia due to the fact that many of the Russian imports that land in Rotterdam are rerouted to other countries in Europe.
