In 2020, "Break Free From Plastic" conducted a brand audit in 55 countries to identify the brands that were the major sources of plastic pollution.

The audit was conducted by 14,734 volunteers, in which they collected 346,494 pieces of plastic waste. 63% of the collected waste items had clear markings of the brands which show that for the third consecutive year, Coca-Cola remained the top plastic polluter. A total of 13,834 branded Coca-Cola plastic items were recorded in 51 countries.

Seven of these top polluters are members of "The New Plastics Economy Global Commitment" and have pledged to reduce their plastic footprint but have not made any significant progress.
