The H-1B is a 'non-immigrant' visa issued by the U.S. government through which employers may obtain workers temporarily from foreign countries.

H-1B is granted to the foreigners under "speciality occupation"  which means the job position must meet one of the following criteria to qualify as a speciality occupation:-
1) a bachelor’s or higher degree or its equivalent is normally the minimum entry requirement for the position.
2) the degree requirement is common to the industry in parallel positions among similar organizations or, in the alternative, the position is so complex or unique that it can be performed only by an individual with a degree.
3) the employer normally requires a degree or its equivalent for the position.
4) the nature of the specific duties is so specialized and complex
that the knowledge required to perform the duties is usually associated with the attainment of a bachelor’s or higher degree.

In 2020, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services received 427,245 H-1B petitions submitted by employers on behalf of foreign workers out of which 426,710 petitions were approved (Initial + Continuing Employment).
