COVID-19 is a major setback for people infected with HIV and Tuberculosis. As COVID-19 cases overwhelmed the healthcare facilities around the world, many people with HIV and TB were not able to access them.

TB remains one of the leading causes of death in the world, with more than 1.4 million deaths due to the disease in 2019.

According to 'The Global Fund', the number of people treated for TB fell by more than a million in 2020 when compared to 2019. Moreover, in 100 countries where The Global Fund invests in healthcare, the number of people undergoing treatment for drug-resistant TB dropped by 19% in 2020.

The overall HIV tests also declined by 22% in 2020. There were 134 million HIV tests in 2019 and 104 million tests in 2020, a drop of 30 million tests. The drop in testing holds back people from getting treatment and increases the risk of more people getting infected.

The Global Fund was created in 2002 to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. It manages and funds various programs to prevent and treat these well-known diseases in 100 countries
